Cost guide
Dog nail clipping prices in the UK
A nail clip on its own costs £10 to £15, the middle half of 75 published UK prices in October 2026; the lowest is £5 and the highest £24. Walk-in clips run from £6.50 to £19.50 at the 12 groomers who publish one, and nail grinding adds about £5.
Typical prices
Ranges, not quotes. A price depends on your dog.
| Work | Typical UK price |
|---|---|
| Nail clip on its own (75 prices) | £10 to £15 |
| Walk-in nail clip, lowest to highest (12 prices) | £6.50 to £19.50 |
| Nail clip from a mobile groomer (5 prices) | £15 to £20 |
| Nail grinding or filing | add about £5 |
Each range is the middle half of published prices, checked October 2026, unless marked lowest to highest. If your dog has a full groom or bath every few weeks, nails are almost always included, so a separate nail clip is only needed between visits or for dogs that are never groomed.
What moves the price
- Walk-in or booked. Some salons take walk-ins at a set price; others need a short booking at the same price.
- Mobile or salon. The 5 published mobile prices have a middle half of £15 to £20, because the groomer still travels to you.
- Clip or grind. Filing or grinding after clipping, or instead of it, adds about £5.
- Size. Most groomers charge one price for any dog; too few publish a price by size to give a range for each.
- Extras. Some groomers sell nails with a paw and pad trim as a small package.

Questions about dog nail clipping
What happens if the groomer cuts the quick?
The nail bleeds. Groomers use styptic powder, which usually stops it within a few minutes. A nail that keeps bleeding, or a split or broken nail, should be seen by a vet.
Can a groomer clip the nails of a dog that hates it?
Many can, using a second person, short sessions with breaks, or a grinder. Tell the groomer in advance. Dogs that cannot be handled at all may need it done under sedation, which a groomer cannot provide.
